1PM on a Monday afternoon, I get word a company would like to interview me in 24 hours. I recently moved down to San Jose from Seattle into temporary housing and all my interview clothes are in storage.
AH!
Luckily I was in downtown San Francisco and on my way to the Caltrain the bus was passing through Union Square. Saved! I quickly hopped of the bus and into Macy’s. I tried on a gorgeous pair of DKNY tailored pants, but they were four years too long. They needed to be hemed, but clearly I didn’t have that kind of time!!! I needed a plan B. I needed somewhere that could hold up to the designer standards, but wouldn’t need tailoring. Hopped on my iPhone and paroozed Google maps for stores near by. There was a Gap right around the corner. Perfect! They were always good in a pinch.
I high tailed up the hill to Post street. There I found a perfect pair of cropped flair pants and the long blazer that matched perfectly and created a suit. The best part, the jacket was onsale for $78 and the pants for $35. And there you have it. A suit that was a perfect fit at a great price!
Suit situation solved and now for shoes. The pants were cropped so I’d need a good tall shoe. When I was in Macy’s I passed the Coach section and there were these gorgeous black Coach Caya Heels I new would be perfect. After trying on a 7 & 1/2 it turned out I needed the 7. Apparently Coach tends to run a little big. I also realized these were the sit and look pretty type, which initially had me worried, because I had a lot of walking to do the next day. However, since the pants were cropped I decided to wear a cute pair of sandals to get me through the walking then switch pre interview.
Needless to say, I felt awesome and knew that if nothing else I could be proud of the professionalism I was bringing to my interview.
